About the Journal
Travesía is a journal of Latin American economic and social history, published semiannually (two issues per year, January–June and July–December). It was founded in 1998 by a group of researchers who agreed that history, as an adventure of knowledge, should not be tied to any orthodoxy or to exclusive normative theoretical or methodological principles; and that economic processes and institutions could not be studied in abstraction from the “inextricable relations between economic vicissitudes and social, political, and cultural vicissitudes,” in the words of Carlo Cipolla.
From the very beginning, its Advisory Board included Manuel Moreno Fraginals, Tamás Szmerecsányi, Carlos Sempat Assadourian, Josep Fontana, Giovanni Levi, Bill Albert, Raúl Fradkin, Carlos Marichal, Enrique Tandeter, Reyna Pastor, Donna Guy, Mario Cerutti, Juan Carlos Garavaglia, Miguel Murmis, Pedro Pérez Herrero, Mario Rapoport, and Nelson Manrique; later joined by Jobson de Andrade Arruda, Vera Ferlini, José Antonio Piqueras, Julio Pinto Vallejos, Andrés Regalsky, and Charles Walker.
In addition to Latin American historians, Travesía has published works by Spanish, French, German, Italian, North American, and Canadian authors. Contributions cover a wide thematic spectrum: regional economies, agro-industries, agrarian history, the social question, labor movement and social movements, business history, associational life, women’s history and feminisms, industrial history and heritage, history of consumption, among others.
Travesía publishes original works in Spanish, Portuguese, English, or French, which, after an initial review by the Editorial Board, are evaluated by external experts under a double-blind peer review system, while book reviews are assessed directly by the Editorial Board. Articles and reviews are accepted year-round and must be submitted by email to travesia@ct.unt.edu.ar or through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Guidelines for submitting articles and reviews are detailed in the “Submissions” section.
Copyright Notice
Authors whose contributions are published after successfully completing the evaluation process grant Travesía non-exclusive publishing rights. The work may be reused, once edited, under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ [creativecommons.org]).
The non-exclusive transfer of rights also includes authorization for the published articles to be disseminated in databases and platforms deemed appropriate for indexing, with the aim of increasing the visibility of the journal and of the research results of the authors who publish in it.
Open Access Statement
Travesía adheres to the various international declarations that promote free access to scientific, academic, and cultural information without any economic, technical, or legal restrictions. Likewise, the receipt, evaluation, editing, layout, and publication of contributions involve no cost to the authors, who in turn do not receive monetary compensation from the journal.
Statement on Ethics and Editorial Best Practices
The Editorial Board of Travesía guarantees the strict observance of good scientific practices, adherence to ethical principles, and the academic quality of the articles published. In accordance with these principles, all articles are evaluated by anonymous external peer reviewers, applying criteria based exclusively on the relevance, originality, scientific significance, and methodological soundness of the texts submitted by their authors. The reviewers issue their assessments using an ad hoc form designed on the basis of these variables. The confidentiality of the evaluation process—and the anonymity of reviewers and authors, the content under review, the reasoned reports issued by reviewers, and any other communication from the Editorial Board—is a non-negotiable principle of the journal. Likewise, any possible rebuttals, claims, or clarifications that authors may deem necessary to submit will also remain confidential.
The Editorial Board of Travesía declares that all forms of plagiarism and self-plagiarism are strictly prohibited, and that any text found to contain fraudulent content of this nature will be rejected. Consequently, authors must guarantee that their articles and associated materials are original and do not infringe upon copyright. In cases of shared authorship, it must be confirmed that all contributing authors reached full agreement regarding the order of authorship, and that the proposed work has not been previously published in print or digital format, whether in scholarly journals or in the proceedings of academic meetings.
Conflict of Interest
The Editorial Board of Travesía is committed to safeguarding the evaluation process from potential conflicts of interest among the various parties involved—authors, external reviewers, and members of the Board itself. Conflicts of interest are considered to exist when personal circumstances (such as family, professional, or friendship ties, open enmity, or very close academic relationships, such as those established between tutors and students) may hinder an objective assessment of the scientific quality of an article or other contribution, thereby introducing bias into the review process.
